Champions League: the dream continues for Nice

OGC Nice took the draw in Amsterdam on Ajax’s home ground (2-2) on Wednesday to validate their ticket to the UEFA Champions League play-off after their 1-1 draw ).

Goals by Arnaud Souquet (3rd) and Vincent Marcel (79th) allowed the Aiglons to qualify for the goal-scoring rule.

Archi-dominated by the Dutch, the Niçois had to fight to the end and are now assured of playing Europe whatever happens thereafter.

In the other matches of the evening, the former player of Monaco and Metz Emmanuel Adebayor allowed, with a goal and a decisive pass, the Turks of Istanbul Basaksehir to win 2-0 at home and eliminate the Club Bruges (5-3 in both matches).

Other former French championship players have also made a name for themselves: former Parisian Guillaume Hoarau, the penalty scorer, and the defender of Sochaux Carlao have opened the mark for the Young Boys and APOEL Nicosia, Dynamo Kiev (1-3, 2-0) and FC Viitorul (1-0, 0-4) respectively.

Moussa Dembélé’s Celtic, absent due to a thigh injury, had to wait for the last twenty minutes and a goal from James Forrest to qualify for the next round by placing Rosenborg (0-0, 0-1 ).

The draw of the dams will take place on August 4th, the matches go on the 15th and 16th, the return matches on the 22nd and 23rd.
