Ligue 1: Lyon wins in Rennes, Nice does not take off
The joy of the Lyon players after the first goal of the OL registered by Memphis Depay (c) on the lawn of Rennes, August 11, 2017
Lyon won their second Ligue 1 success by beating Rennes (2-1) on Friday, while Nice was again surprised (2-1) by the promoted Trojan at home on the second day.
The Lyonnais passed the Rennes test with realism, thanks to a vicious free-kick from Memphis Depay (58), and a new goal by rookie Mariano Diaz (75), a superb head over center Nabil Fekir.
A late free kick from Benjamin Bourigeaud (86) allowed Rennes to narrow the gap, insufficient however for the Bretons to exceed their total by one point in the standings.
With six goals in two games, OL has consolidated his leading position, ahead … Troyes, surprising promoted victorious in Nice.
As in Saint-Etienne (0-1) during the first day, the Aiglons dominated the debates, but lacked changes in rhythm to materialize their possession of the ball in the last thirty meters.
Worse, it was by a gross mistake from his goalkeeper Yoan Cardinale on a haphazard outing that the Gym saw Adama Niane open the scoring (54) of a skillful lob.
The Southern goalkeeper was not able to do anything about the strike of Saif-Eddine Khaoui, diverted before finishing in the small net (86).
Only satisfaction: the counter of the club Azuréen this season was unlocked by Alassane Pléa, on penalty to equalize (64).
